about align

Each day, our experiences are shaped by design choices. I established ALIGN because I believe these choices have the power to positively influence our lives in meaningful ways.

After earning my master’s degree in interior architecture, I worked at an architecture and engineering firm in Washington, DC, where I gained valuable experience in concept-to-execution design planning. I then expanded my expertise through hands-on experience with large-scale home renovations, operating as both designer and contractor. This process ultimately led me to become a licensed general contractor in North Carolina, strengthening my ability to bridge the gap between design and construction.

Today, I work closely with clients in our community on a variety of renovation and new construction projects. With a deep understanding of both the creative and technical aspects of design and construction, I approach every project with a comprehensive vision—one that balances aesthetics, practicality, and long-term value. I’m passionate about guiding clients through thoughtful design and architectural decisions while ensuring their vision remains at the forefront. Whether it’s a renovation or new construction, I look forward to collaborating with you!

frequently asked questions

Given the unique nature of each project, I’ll need to learn about your goals and details for the build to provide an accurate price. The quickest way to inquire about project rates is by emailing [email protected] with a brief project summary, including location and helpful images.

While my pricing structure depends on the scope of work, you can expect to pay a non-refundable deposit between 10- 20% of the total cost of contract. Most deliverables are priced at a flat rate, with a clause that any additional work outside of the original scope will be priced at an hourly rate. Yes, absolutely. I can provide drawings for jobs as small as reimagining a kitchen layout, to jobs as big as full-scale new construction. I’m especially passionate about renovations and new construction within existing structures. See my construction drawing service here.

Definitely—I have several options from design consultations to a full design packages. I can even create curated shopping lists to make purchasing that much easier. For more information, check out this example of a small client deliverable, or check ALIGN’s interior design service.

Yes, I am a licensed general contractor in North Carolina. However, ALIGN focuses solely on providing design and architectural services. While my construction experience informs my design process, I do not offer general contracting services through ALIGN. My GC license is used in my other business, where I renovate and restore homes. I do, however, work closely with trusted local contractors and can help guide you in selecting the right professional for your project.

ALIGN does not hold an architecture license in NC. However, according to the requirements set by the NC Board of Architecture and Registered Interior Designers for the use of seals and practice of architecture, the following ALIGN services are exempt from an architect’s seal:

Construction Sets for:

  • Single family residences
  • Single family attached residences, if the structure is less than eight units attached
  • Plans for alterations, remodeling or renovations of an existing building. (Incl additions)
  • New commercial structures with less than 3,000 Sq. Ft.
  • New commercial structures that are less than $300,000 in construction costs

With that said, ALIGN collaborates closely with structural engineers and contractors on every project, ensuring the integrity of each design. Moreover, we maintain a strong working relationship with town officials to guarantee that our designs not only comply with local building codes but also meet the standards set by organizations such as The Historic Preservation Commission.

That’s a great question, and one that can only be answered by underscoring the power of design. A builder can advise you on what they think is best from a construction standpoint or their personal preference. However, their focus is typically on how to best execute a build. They are not always as focused on the final user experience—how the space will be perceived, moved through, and ultimately function. Designers pay special attention to efficiency, human factors like anthropometrics, and creating a cohesive aesthetic, as well as the specific construction methods and materials required, and all the small, critical details in between.

The difference between hiring  just a builder versus also hiring a designer to collaborate with that builder is the difference of  “Great, the project is finished,” and “Wow, this project is incredible!”

Certainly! Depending how detailed you would like the drawings to be, I may need (in addition to the plans) a material list and color palette. If you don’t have that, no problem—I can help you develop it as an additional service. Check out my 3D drawing options here.
